Two things happened yesterday that made me aware that I’m going very much against the norm with my phone usage. Neither were bad. In fact both made me glad I’m doing what I’m doing.

This is what my iPhone screen looks like. I have removed everything. The only thing I use my phone for is photos, texting and calling. There are no games, no photo editors nothing else. I am, in fact, using it for photos less and less.
Yesterday morning at Starbucks the baristas were talking about how much time they spend on their phones. One of them said she had checked screen time and was spending 3 hours a day on Instagram. She was shocked she could spend that much time on one app.
I showed them my phone and one barista said, “Oh, that’s so smart! I should totally do that!” Then she paused and said, “I bet you see so much more of what’s going on around you!”
The fact is, she’s right. I do.
The next thing that happened was later in the day when I went by my bank. The teller asked if I used their website and mobile app. I told her I did and she began explaining their new mobile app feature that let you use the app to access an ATM if you left your card at home. She told me that if I had a moment she’d show me how to access it on my phone… just launch the banking app. I showed her my phone.
“Wow,” she said…
